Tension in UP's Barabanki over idol immersion

Barabanki, Oct 3 (UNI) Over 20 vehicles were damaged and several shops gutted by an agitated mob in Sahadatganj area of the district over change of route of a procession to immerse the idol of Goddess Durga today.

Accrding to the officials, the police this morning asked residents to change the route of the immersion procession. At this, Villagers who wanted to take the procession through a township protested and started pelting stones.

In a bid to disperse mob, the police used mild force. Angry residents blocked the Barabanki-Bahraich road and damaged the and later torched several shops.

The situation is said to be tense but under control.
