PM's scheme launched for J

Srinagar, Oct 3 (UNI) A Prime Minister's scheme -- ''Nownihaloon Key Leye Naya Saweera'' -- has been launched in Jammu and Kashmir for adoption of orphans of areas ravaged by the powerful earthquake of October 8 last year.

This was announced by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad while addressing a public gathering at Kamalkote in border town of Uri today.

The scheme has been introduced for the adoption of those orphans who lost their parents in the temblor.

Under the scheme, the Prime Minister has granted Rs five lakh each to orphans who lost both parents in the devastating earthquake and Rs 2.5 lakh each for those who have lost either father or mother.

Mr Azad said the amount would be deposited in banks in the name of the beneficiary orphan and the profit earned utilised in his or her education.

The principal amount would be utilised by the orphan on maturity to settle down in life, he added.
