NPCC stresses on Naga unity

Kohima, Oct 3: Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed concern over spurt in factional clashes and killing and said the foremost thing was to strive for unity of all sections of Naga people since sovereignty will not just come through killings.

In a release here today, NPCC president Hokheto Sumi said the clashes and killings among various underground groups had confused the people as to what the ''undergrounds are actually going to achieve for the Nagas''.

The Naga political issue started with the vision that all sections of Naga people should come together and jointly raise their voice demanding '' freedom''.

He, however, lamented that during the past five decades, the underground could not remain as one organisation and started killing each other in the name of having different organisations and claiming supremacy.

The NPCC, nonetheless seemed to see a ray of hope from the church when it said, ''The church leader's involvement in the process of reconciliation is another positive step to bring all sections of Nagas together and in this endeavour we should all join hands and strengthen their tireless efforts.'' While reminding that killing among Nagas would not bring any solution, the NPCC said it was high time to build trust and confidence to let unity prevail.
