Karnataka bandh on Belgaum issue on October 4
Bangalore, Oct 3: Life in Karnataka is expected to be disrupted tomorrow following a state-wide bandh call given by pro-kannada organisations over the Centre's ''step-motherly'' stand on the border row with Maharashtra on Belgaum issue.
''This bandh is in protest against the designs of Maharashtra government which is time and again raking up the border issue which has been long settled as per the Mahajan report four decades ago.
Belgaum belongs to us and it is inseparable part of Karnataka,'' Legislator and Kannada activist Vatal Nagaraj, who is heading the joint committee of organisations actively supporting the bandh told source.
The bandh call had received wide support with nearly 800 organisations in the entire state, including political parties like ruling Janata Dal(S) supporting it. BJP the ruling coalition combine partner and Congress, have extended an indirect support.
With one of the coalition partners supporting the protest life in the state is expected to come to a grinding halt. The pro-Kannada organisors want all commercial activity and public transport services, including the rail and air services, to be suspended for the day.
Many schools and colleges and also private institutiuons including come Information Technology Companies have already announced holiday, while attendance in government office was likely to be thin.
Excepting emergency services like hospitals, medical stores, milk and water supply and newspaper offices all other services would be disrupted.
