Srinagar, Oct 3 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation has arrested a police official for accepting a bribe, an official spokesman said today.

He said Head Constable Mohammad Rafiq Khan, posted at Bomai in Sopore area of north Kashmir, was caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3000 from Javed Ahmad Lone, a resident of Langate in Kupwara district.

The spokesman said Lone had lodged a complaint with the Vigilance Organisation alleging that his vehicle, bearing registration number JK05-8074, was involved in an accident and seized by police.

As per the procedure, the complainant got a release order from the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Sopore and presented it to the Head Constable who demanded Rs 3000 as illegal gratification for releasing the vehicle, he added.

A case was registered and a team of Vigilance officials deputed for investigations.

During the course of investigations, the Head Constable was caught red handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant, the spokesman said.
