J J Singh pays tributes at Chandigarh War Memorial
Chandigarh, Oct 3 (UNI) Paying tributes to the martyrs of the armed forces who laid down their lives defending the country since indpendence, Army Chief Gen J J Singh laid a wreath at the Chandigarh War Memorial at Bougainvillea-Garden here today.
Gen Singh wrote in the visitors book, ''An extremely inspiring and motivating memorial to the valour and self sacrifice of all ranks of the armed forces will surely exhort the youth of the country to follow the example set by the soldiers of this great nation.'' The Memorial, which lists names of the martyrs from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Union Territory, Chandigarh, is an expression of a nation's gratitude for the supreme sacrifice made by its bravest children. It is perhaps the largest war memorial of the contry with nearly 8459 names of deceased soldiers since 1947 from the Army, Air Force and Navy.
