Iran talks constructive, no breakthrough - Solana

LEVI, Finland, Oct 3 (Reuters) EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana today said a conversation with top Iranian nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani had been constructive but provided no breakthrough in efforts to persuade Tehran to curtail its nuclear programme.

''It was a conversation ... that was cordial and constructive. We still have some elements that need to be agreed. We will continue talking,'' Solana told reporters at an EU event in Finland of a telephone conversation with Larijani late yesterday.

He described an Iranian proposal under which France would monitor uranium enrichment on Iranian soil as ''interesting'' but added: This is something we have to analyse in greater detail.'' Reuters LL DS1700
