GM India sales increase 9 pc in September

New Delhi, Oct 3: General Motors India (GMI) today posted a 9 per cent growth in its sales during September at 3,506 units as compared to 3,220 units in the corresponding period last year.

The company's Tavera model achieved the highest ever monthly sales of 2,222 units marking a 39 per cent year-on-year growth over September 2005 when it sold 1,600 units.

''The sales of the Chevrolet Tavera have been overwhelming by registering an all time monthly high. The sales of other Chevrolet brands, the Aveo and the Optra, and the initial response we are getting from our newly launched Chevrolet SRV are also in line with our expectations,'' GMI Vice President P Balendran said.

It sold 421 units of Optra and 863 units of Aveo models during the month. The company's Chevrolet platform clocked a year-on-year growth of 43 per cent during September 2005 selling 2,455 units as compared of 3,506 units in September 2006.

The Halol facility in Gujarat is undergoing an expansion drive to enhance its capacity to 85,000 units by the end of this year to cater to the increased market demand for Chevrolet brand of vehicles.
