Delhi Govt approves action plan to overcome dengue

New Delhi, Oct 3 (UNI) With a sharp rise in dengue cases in the capital, the Delhi Government today approved an action plan to overcome the situation.

The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

The Cabinet decided that the school students should be advised to wear full length uniform to avoid aedes mosquito bite.

''School principals should be made responsible for ensuring cleanliness on the school premises,'' an official statement said.

The Directorate of Industries will carry out the inspection of all the industrial areas and intensive inspection of Government offices, hospitals and other institutions.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi will deploy an additional work force of 2,400 personnel so that proper fogging and spray operations can be intensified in the affected areas.

The Flood and Irrigation Department will also be asked to ensure that major drains are sprayed to contain mosquito breeding .

''The Vice-Chancellors of Universities in Delhi should be requested to take proper measures in the colleges and specially in hostels,'' it said.

It was also decided that the directions be issued to all the governmrnt offices, institutions and hospitals that they should avoid using desert coolers. ''The water coolers, overhead or underground tanks should be cleaned periodically''.
