Cash distribution: AIADMK workers lay siege to DMK conclave

Madurai, Oct 3 (UNI) Irate AIADMK workers led by party leaders today laid siege to a marriage hall here, where cash was reportedly being distributed to DMK functionaries for the local body elections.

Led by a team of former Ministers including O Panneerselvam, K A Sengottaiyan and Dalavai Sundaram, AIADMK supporters surrounded the marriage hall, leading to a scuffle. Tension gripped the area.

Police who rushed to the spot had a tough time bringing the situation under control. There was also a scuffle involving police and AIADMK workers, who would not leave the place for nearly an hour.

An election official arrived on information and pacified the warring groups with the assistance of the police.

This was the first instance of alleged cash distribution, which came into the open during the campaign for the elections.
