Bomb thrown at DMK leader's residence in TN

Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu Oct 3 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Chunampet near Madurantakam in this district when a crude bomb was thrown by five people at a DMK leader's residence today.

Security was tightened at the spot and a police party led by District Superintendent of Police Amalraj rushed to the spot. A case was registered and investigation was on.

A team led by a Sub-Inspector was searching for the five, police said.

Giving details, they said, Damodaran, Secretary, Farmers' Association and a panchayat leader was campaigning for the Chunampet candidate of the DMK in the local body polls. She is Kala, secretary of the DMK women's wing.

The Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) had nomintated Tamilarasi as their candidate. Her son and administrator of the party's southern districts, Anandan, was campaigning for Tamilarasi.

Anandan alleged in a complaint to Madurantakam RTO that Damodaran and his men set fire to his residence a few days ago. In retaliation, Anandan and his friends threw a country bomb at Damodaran's house today, which damaged his compound wall, it was charged.

Damodaran lodged a complaint at Chunampet police station that Anandan had tried to eliminate him so that his mother could win the elections without difficulty.
