Big support for separate SGPC for Haryana
Chandigarh, Oct 3 (UNI) The proposal for a separate Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for Haryana has drawn an overwhelming support from within the state even as the parent body and the Akali leaders in Punjab are strongly opposed to it.
As many as 90 per cent of the representations received by a committee formed by the Haryana government to look into the matter had favoured the formation of separate SGPC for the state, said Agriculture Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha who heads the committee.
Talking to reporters here, he said a total of 3.50 lakh representations in the form of affidavits had been received by the committee.
The committee would submit its report by the year end, Mr chatha said and added that the interests of the Sikhs would be protected while taking any decision on this matter.
The SGPC leaders and the Akali leaders have been opposing the proposal for a separate SGPC for Haryana ever since the idea was mooted by some Sikh leaders in the state.
