Bhupathi may not play for India again
Kolkata, Oct 3 (UNI) India's doubles specialist Mahesh Bhupathi may not represent the country again since his understanding with former partner Leander Paes doesn't seem be to working out as per plans.
Talking to UNI over phone from Mumbai, Bhupathi said '' It is most likely that I will not be representing the country again.
The final decision will come in a couple of weeks time. '' This means Bhupathi would not be representing India in Davis Cup, Asian Games and the 2008 Olympics.
''I had a chat with Leander and he had been extremely honest. We have not been able to adjust the schedule in the lead up to the Olympics, '' Bhupathi said over phone.
''I had a talk with my family, my father and other close ones and have more or less arrived at this decision, '' Bhupathi said.
He also said Leander had told him that things could have been different if he and Martin Damm had been out early in the US Open.
This decision could possibly bring down curtains on an era of the most succesful tennis pair of the country. The Lee-Hesh pair, known as the 'Indian Express, ruled the tennis world in the doubles circuit winning almost all the Grand Slams.
While Bhupathi has 10 Grand Slam titles to his name, Leander has seven.
Currently Leander partners Czech Mertin Damm in the doubles, while Bhupathi is partnering Craotian Mario Acnic , also called 'baby Goran'.
'' This is how a cookie crumbles'' said Bhupathi while signing off.
