Assam Regiment Biennial Conference
Shillong, Oct 3 (UNI) Assam Regiment will be holding the 29th Biennial Conference and the 9th reunion on October six and seven at Assam Regimental Centre here.
Meghalaya Governor M M Jacob has consented to be the chief guest and will inaugurate the programme on October 6.
Colonel of Regiment of the Assam Regiment Brig R N Singh, SM, will preside over the conference which will be attended by all the commanding officers and Subedar Majors of the 19 Battalions of the Assam Regiment.
Topics relating to Operational, training and administrative aspects will be discussed at the conference. Apart from that conference will also review the activities of the regiment and plan future strategy and welfare programme of the regiment.
Meanwhile, over thousands of veteran soldiers were expected to attend the 9th reunion of the regiment along with serving officers and jawans.
It may be recalled that Assam Regiment was raised in Shillong on June 15, 1941 and the regiment has now grown to 19 battalions, including the three Rashtriya Rifles and three TA Battalions.
The regiment has indeed proved its mettle in all these years, with seven Battle Honours, three Theatre Awards, eight Chief of the Army Staff Citations and nine Army Commanders Appreciation.
The regiment also has to its credit 63 pre-independence and 843 post-independence honours and awards.
