TSP to support AIADMK in by-election, local body polls

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 2 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Samajwadi Party (TSP) will support the AIADMK in Madurai Central Assembly by-poll scheduled on October 11, as well as in the local body elections scheduled on October 13 and 15, wherever the party has not fielded candidates.

Talking to newspersons, TSP State Working President Elango Yadav said a resolution to this effect had been adopted at the party's state executive meeting held here today.

He said the party would undertake election campaign in support of the AIADMK candidate at Madurai.

On the Mullaiperiyar Dam row between Kerala and Tamil Nadu, he urged the Centre to intervene immediately, as the Kerala Government was adamant on its stand despite Supreme Court judgment that the dam height should be raised.

He said the party would submit a memorandum to the Tamil Nadu Governor during the second week of this month in this regard.

Mr Elango appealed to the State Government to convene an all party meeting to discuss the issue in detail.

He charged the DMK and PMK with playing a double role on reservation for dalits in higher education in Central institutions.

While the DMK had strongly opposed the Centre's move to disinvest Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), they were maintaining silence on the livelihood issue concerning dalits, he alleged.
