Thousands initiated into world of letters

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 2 (UNI) Thousands of tiny tots were today initiated into the world of letters on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashmi all over Kerala.

From early morning the devotees thronged temples across the State. Temples at Panachikadu in Kottayam, Chottanikkara and Dakshina Mookambika in Ernakulam and Attukal in Thiruvananthapuram, where goddesses reign as principal deities, witnessed large crowds.

Reports from different parts of the State said though the ritual has its rooting in the Hindu worship of Saraswati, the deity of learning, but thousands, breaking religious barriers, participated in it.

A report from Kottyam said the main programme was held at the Panachikkad Saraswathy temple (Dakshina Mookambi). The Vidyarambham programmes started at 0430 hrs.

NSS General Secretary P K Narayana Panicker inaugurated the Vidyarambham programmes at the Malayala Manorama.

Vidyarambham programmes were also held at various temples, including the Malliyoor and Suryakaladi Ganapathy temples, Manarcadu and Kumaranelloor Devi temples, D C Books and other institutions.
