Tension in Hardoi as miscreants torch Ravana effigy on Navami

Hardoi, UP, Oct 2 (UNI) Tension prevailed in the Kauchna township of the district today as miscreants torched the effigy of Ravana last night itself.

Since the effigy of Ravana is torched on Dashmi, angry residents of the area blocked the Hardoi-Lucknow highway demanding the arrest of the miscreants.

Officials said since no senior official of the district administration reached the spot, the agitated mob started pelting stones at roadways buses and private vehicles.

At least five roadways buses were reportedly damaged. In a bid to disperse the mob, police later used force and opened fire in the air, injuring 10 persons, including three cops.

The situation in Kauchna is reported to be tense but under control. As a precaution, additional forces have been deployed in the area.
