Ragpickers ride 'Gandhigiri' bandwagon in Varanasi

Varanasi, Oct 2 (UNI) The journey of 'Gandhigiri' started by Sanjay Dutt in 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' today found ideal flag-bearers in rag-picking children of the holy city, who drew parallel's with the father of nation on his 137th birth anniversary.

Rag-pickers sporting looks of the heroes of freedom struggle carried out a unique procession this afternoon, with three kids essaying the role of the illustrious monkeys of the father of nation, stealing the show.

The three children playing 'illustrious monkeys' drew parallels between themselves and Mahatama Gandhi. ''We don't have anything to wear like Gandhiji, who waged a non-violent struggle throughout his life for country's freedom, just as we daily embark on a quest to create wealth from waste.'' Vowing to further the ideals of Gandhiji, the children also dressed as Mother India and Rani Lakshami Bai, staged street plays to elevate the principles of nationalism and secularism.

The entire programme was organised under the auspices of an NGO, Vishal Bharat Sansthan.
