Prisoner attempts to commit suicide

Puducherry, Oct 2 (UNI) A prisoner at the central prison here attempted to commit suicide last evening.

Police said Gopalakrishnan(30) of Bhoomiyanpet was convicted to life imprisonment in 2003 in a murder case. His brother Kumar was also convicted in the case. Kumar fell ill recently and had been treated in the prison. He was also keeping some pills with him.

Gopalakrishnan, who was seperated from his family long back, due to his mental stress, swallowed the pills, Kumar was keeping.

He was admitted to the Government General Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.

A case has been registered on a complaint from the Jail Superintendent Jayakanthan and an investigation was, underway, police added.
