PM condoles Hore's death
Pretoria, Oct 2 (UNI) Condoling the death of well known sculptor Somnath Hore, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said he would always be remembered as ''someone who inspired generations of artists and social activists''.
''He was one of the greatest artists and sculptors of our times and a pioneer of modern art of India,'' said Dr Singh, who is on a four-day visit to South Africa.
Praising Hore's ''social commitment'' and ''originality of thinking'', he said the sculptor spoke out against social evils and economic exploitation.
Winner of Kalidas Samman and many other awards, Hore died last night after a prolonged illness.
Born at Srihatta in Chattagram (now in Bangladesh) in undivided Bengal, the sculptor took part in land reform movement.
