O P Nayyar, N Rajam conferred Thane Bhushan awards
Thane, Oct 2 (UNI) Veteran Music Director O P Nayyer and Hindustani Violinist Padma Bushan Dr N Rajam were among the eleven prominent personalities who were awarded the 'Thane Bushan' here last night on the 24th anniversary of the city.
As both were not present for the function the Mayor Rajan Vichare will visit them at their residence and hand over the awards, which include a Trophy and certificate, Shawl and srifal.
Shiv Sena leader and in-Charge for Thane affairs Subash Desai, Chairman of the Maharashtra State Art and Cultural Board Pramashri Madhu Manesh Karnik and veteran stage artist Prabhakar Panshikar were the Chief guests.
Also present were Thane district Shiv Sena Chief and MLA Eknath Shinde and Thane MP Prakash Paranjpe.
He advocated the need for 'Thane Festival' on the lines of the one that is being held in Pune and Mumbai and was confident that the leaders of Thane could really do the same.
More than 140 doctors from the city who rendered timely assistance to the citizens during the 7/26 flash floods were also honoured. Prominent among them were Dr Anil Tambe, Dr Dayanand Kumbla and Dr Chandawarkar.
A six year old boy Nair, who saved the life of a two year old kid who fell down from second floor flat was also felicitated.
Nearly 60 people were awarded the Thane Gaurav award and they included prominent personalities from various fields.
They include Punam Singhvi, Dr Sahu Rasal, Advocate Banvarilal Sharma, Uday Nirgudkar, Joe Alwares, Journalists Sudhir Korhale (Sakal), Sopan Bongane (Samna), Milind Ballal (TOI, Thane Vaibhav) and S Ramakrishnan (UNI). The other recipients were from the fields of arts, sports, education, social work etc.
Besides these at least 80 persons were awarded Thane Gunijan award at the mega event.
