Lion drowns in dam in C'garh
Korba, Oct 2 (UNI) A lion drowned in Bago dam at Katoghara Forest Division in Korba district of Chhattisgarh, official sources said today.
On seeing the carcass of the lion floating in the dam on September 30, villagers informed the forest division's office.
A forest department team conducted 'panchnama' and sent the carcass for a post-mortem, which revealed that the lion died due to drowning. The post-mortem also found that the animal was hungry from 3-4 days and it was suspected that it drowned because of weakness.
Later, the carcass was cremated but the viscera was preserved and sent for DNA test.
Forest department officials pointed out that pugmarks of every lion had been found during a census of wild animals this year.
The deceased lion could be one among them and its pugmarks had been taken for the purpose of counting after matching it with other samples.
