Hamas-led security force withdraws after Gaza clashes

GAZA, Oct 1 (Reuters) The Palestinian Interior Ministry today ordered its Hamas-led security force to pull back from some positions in Gaza where they had been deployed to stop policemen protesting over unpaid wages.

The order to withdraw came after calls by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh to stop internal violence that erupted after the security force clashed with protesters.

Eight people were killed earlier as loyalists to Hamas and President Abbas's Fatah group clashed in the territory.
