Glowing tributes paid to Mahatma, Shastri in MP

Bhopal, Oct 2 (UNI) Floral tributes were paid to Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his 137th birth anniversary, and to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 102nd birth anniversary, at various places in Madhya Pradesh today.

Chief Minister paid his respects by garlanding busts of Mahatma Gandhi and the former Prime Minister at the Old Vidhan Sabha premises here.

Mr Chouhan pointed out that the ideals of truth and 'ahimsa' taught by the Father of the Nation were eternal and the country would progress in the right direction if it followed the path shown by him.

He said there was need to adopt Gandhiji's experiments with truth today in order to reform society and asserted to reform oneself before reforming others.

He also garlanded a photograph of Gandhiji at the Gandhi Bhavan and sang 'bhajans' favourite of the Father of the Nation. Later, he distributed prizes to schoolchildren who won in the 'Aao Gandhi ko jano' competition.

Congress leaders celebrated the occasion at MPPCC office here besides other places and underlined the contribution of the leaders towards society.

A photo exhibition was put up in the state capital, while several painting, essay writing and other competitions were organised.
