Floral tributes paid to Mahatma in Karnataka
Bangalore, Oct 2 (UNI) Glowing tributes were paid to Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhiji, on his 137th birth anniversary, and to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 102nd birth anniversary, in Karnataka state today.
Governor T N Chaturvedi led thousands of people honouring the two great men of India. The Governor garlanded the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at the Raj Bhavan.
The famous Gandhi Statue on M G Road here was a beehive of activity as hundreds of people, including school children, thronged the park surrounding the statue to pay their respects to Mahatma.
Congress leaders also celebrated the occasion at KPCC office, while festive atmosphere prevailed at Gandhi Bhavans in various part of the state.
Chief Minisiter H D Kumaraswamy, away in Mysore to take part in Dasara Festivities, paid his respects by garlanding a bust of Mahatma Gandhi at Abdul Nazir Sab Institute of Rural Development. He later attended a function at the famous 'Gandhi square' in that city.
Floral tributes were also paid to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 102nd birth anniversary throughout the state today.
