Durga puja concludes with immersion of idols
Patna, Oct 2 (UNI) The nine-day propitiation of mother goddess Durga concluded this evening in Bihar with immersion of the idols in Ganga and its tributaries with gaiety and religious fervour.
The effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad were also put into flames with great fanfare in limited venues of major towns in celebration of Dussehra marking victory of good over evil.
District administration and the police made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth conduct of immersion process on two major sites on the bank of Ganga here. Police escorted all processions with idols for safe passage from puja pandals to the immersion site.
Dussehra was celebrated at Gandhi Maidan, where large number of people thronged to witness the burning of effigies representing evil powers followed by a spectacular fireworks show.
Both Durga Puja and Dussehra celebrations passed off peacefully with no report of any untoward incident from any part of the state.
Two people, however, drowned in Gandak river at Hajipur when they reached the midstream of the river to surrender the earthen pots as a part of immersion rituals.
