Barnala, MK paid tributes to Father of the Nation
Chennai, Oct 2 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala and Chief Minister M Karunanidhi led the State in paying glowing tributes to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 137th birth anniversary today.
All-religion prayer, cycle rally for world peace, photo exhibition and cultural events also marked the observance of Gandhi Jayanti in the State.
Mr Barnala, Mr Karunanidhi, State Ministers and eminent citizens garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the scenic Marina beach road here.
People from all walks of life made a beeline to the beach road to offer their tributes to Gandhiji.
Mr Barnala also inaugurated khadi special rebate sale at Khadi Gramodyog Bhavan to mark the occasion.
State Information Minister Parithi Ilamvazhuthi flagged off a cycle rally organised to propagate national integrity, social amity and world peace.
Floral tributes were paid to a portrait of 'Bapu' at 'Satyamurthy Bhavan,' the Congress headquarters here.
