A free check-up camp at Thane proves a boon to many

Thane, Oct 02 (UNI) On the eve of Dussera, a free health check-up camp was jointly organised by the Thane district rural police and pharmaceutical giant, US Pharma India, here.

The camp proved out to a boon for many like Ms Anandibai Damu Late, a centurion who stepped out of her home after nearly a decade. Partial blindness had compelled her indoors for all these years.

''I have not come out of my house since the last ten years and could not see anything, and no one helped me and so I remained indoors only. Today, I trekked for several kilometers from my farm and reached the camp with the help of two villagers.

After the check-up, I got these spectacles free and now I am happy,'' she said.

This pitiable state of affairs is not only the case with Anandibai alone, but most of the 700 villagers from the surrounding villages have not got out of their houses for several years now, as they cannot see properly.

The team of doctors at the camp was led by Dr Sushil Indoria (MD) of the Life Care Hospital.

Dr Indoria told UNI, ''The predominant problems of the villagers here are anemic problems caused due to the lack of sufficient intake of nutritional food. A number of patients who had turned-up for the check-up, also had skin ailments and joint pains. A lot of these problems can be taken care of by maintaining proper hygeine and imparting education to these people,'' he added.

The check-up camp was a general one in which all aspects of the checking was done and necessary medical assistance was given by the team of doctors who had specially gone there for the purpose.

The villages from where the villagers had thronged the camp included Jamghar, Deogaon, Vasuri, Kharivli, and Kudus.
