Rodrigues greets people on Dussehra

Chandigarh, Oct 1 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator Gen (retd) S F Rodrigues today extended warm greetings and good wishes to the people of Punjab and Chandigarh on the auspicious occasion of Dussehra.

In his message on the eve of the festival the Governor said the festival of Dussehra, which commemorates the defeat of evil forces represented by Ravana, by Lord Rama, the epitome of virtue and truth, is celebrated in the country every year from the time immemorial.

He said that though this festival marks gaiety and enthusiasm, ''there is an underlying message of pious, purposeful and peaceful living, the values and unique qualities we need to cherish in our social system for creating a dynamic society based on harmony and mutual trust''.

General Rodrigues appealed to the people to celebrate this festival collectively in an atmosphere of peace and amity and in the best traditions of our composite culture, rising above considerations of caste, creed and religion, thus displaying the spirit of true ''punjabiat'', peace, brotherhood and the oneness of mankind.
