Police should recognise objective of nation: Mithi
Puducherry, Oct 1(UNI) Police have not only the duty to maintain law and order but also have a new crucial role in recongnising the larger objective of a developed nation, Pondicherry Lt Governor Mukut Mithi said here today.
Participating in the 'Police Raising day' celebration here, Mr Mithi said a society free of crimes and assured of peace and tranquility assents the ladder of development and achieves progress at rapid strides. Development and security were, therefore, mutualy inter-related, he added.
The manifestation of anti-social, anti-people and anti-nationals threatens the very fabric of our democratic way of life, he said and added that today with many challenges to internal security, terrorism, extremism, crimes against women and backward castes, police were duty bound to deal with crimes and law and order problems within the framework.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Minister N Rangasamy appealed to the police force to concentrate on the reduction of crimes in the Union Territory. The wrong deeds of some police personnel was creating a blackmark on the entire police force he pointed out and said that police should take steps to avert this.
He also said the appreciation showered at the internal security meeting held in New Delhi should go to the Puducherry police personnel and the public here.
State Agriculture Minister V Vaithilingam, Lok Sabha member Prof M Ramadass, Government Whip M Kandasamy and senior police officials, including IGP Kishan Kumar were among others, who participated in the function.
