Devotees throng Durga temple
Vijayawada, Oct 1 (UNI) On the ninth day of Navaratri celebrations, about 50,000 devotees visited the Kanaka durga temple atop Indrakeeladri here today.
The pilgrims, after having a holy dip in the river Krishna had darshan of the presiding deity on what is considered the most auspicious day as the goddess was attired in the form of 'Mahishasura Mardhini'.
The devotees had to wait in a queue for a long time to have a glimpse of the goddess.
Devasthanam authorities imposed restrictions on plying vehicles to the hill top and pilgrims had to trek on foot to the temple.
On the concluding day tomorrow, 'Teppotsavam' would be celebrated on 'Hamsa Vahanam' in the river Krishna.
On behalf of the State government, Endowment Minister J C Diwakar reddy presented 'silk vastram' to the goddess on September 29.
Over two lakh devotees, who took Bhavani Deeksha, would relinquish it from tomorrow to October four, temple sources told UNI.
