UNI stir marked by revolutionary songs, drama
New Delhi, Sept 30: The agitation by UNI employees against the bid by a media house to take over the news agency was today marked by revolutionary songs and poetry.
At the centre of the performances were the ideals of Shahid Bhagat Singh, a revolutionary who laid down his life during the freedom struggle, conveying the message that nothing can be achieved without sacrifice.
The theatrical performances were given by 'Nishant Natya Manch,' a theatre group.
Mr Shamsul Islam, a lecturer in Satayawati College of Delhi University, and his wife Neelima Sharma, who run the Manch, said the agitation by the UNI employees was for a just cause and for the sake of the freedom of the press.
Mediavest, headed by Subash Chandra, has bought a major stake in UNI, but the deal was challenged by another bidder in the Delhi High Court which yesterday directed the UNI chairman and the Registrar of Companies to maintain ''status quo as of date'' and restrained them from transferring shares to Mediavest.
