Tirupur is the chosen one for Microsoft's cluster biz

Coimbatore, Sep 30 (UNI) Microsoft (MS) has selected Tirupur as one of the clusters for providing IT solutions and applications for knitwear industry.

Speaking to newsmen here today, Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) President A Sakthivel said TEA would soon sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the global IT major for solutions which can help reduce production costs in the sector and make it more competitive.

Microsoft's Online Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions will help the knitwear units access information on global markets at any given time from anywhere thereby enabling systematic approach to production planning, control and marketing.

MS Group Head SME Cluster Anil Varghese said 'Project Vikas,' the company's cluster development programme, was announced during Bill Gates visit to India last year.

The approach received strong policy support from the Centre.The company would disseminate information on the advantages of using supply chain management, customer relationship management using web technology and paperless export documentation.

With knowledge-based networks, the units could have online chatrooms, collaborative exchanges, computer traning labs and need-based local software eco-system, he added.
