Processional deity taken in golden chariot
Tirumala, Sept 30 (UNI) Thousands of devotees witnessed the procession of the glittering 'Golden Chariot' of Lord Venkateswara here on the sixth day of the nine-day annual Brahmotsavam festival this evening.
The bejewelled processional deity of Lord Malayappaswamy, along with his consorts Sridevi and Bhoodevi were placed on the chariot, which was pulled by select devotees and volunteers around the four 'mada steets' amidst chanting of 'Govinda, Govinda.' TTD Trust Board Chairman B Karunakara Reddy, TTD Executive Officer A P V N Sarma and Tirumala temple JEO G Balaramaiah among others participated in the procession.
Earlier in the day, the deity was taken around the streets in the 'Hanumantha Vahanam'.
'Kolattam,' 'bhajans' and 'veda parayanams' were performed as part of the procession.
Later in the night, the deity would be placed on 'Gaja Vahanam.' The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) transported a record number of about 1.32 lakh passengers from Tirupati to the hill shrine.
