Dacoits remanded to six days police custody in Pune
Pune, Sep 30 (UNI) A gang of ten dacoits wanted for various crimes including murders, house break-ins, armed robberies etc.
were today remanded to police custody for six days, by a local court here.
Superintendent of Police, Viswas Nagre Patil told reporters that the gangsters belonged to an organised criminal syndicate.
They committed murders and dacoities at different places in the taluka, like Lonikalbhor, Shikrapur, and Pune district during the past five years. The gang has already confessed to eight murders and robberies to the tune of Rs 9,40,000, he added.
Mr Patil informed that presently, out of 125 deaths, 26 have gone undetected last year while this year out of 81 deaths, five cases have gone undetected. He explained that murders and undetected cases were high in Pune district due to the hilly region (the ghats) and numerous water spots where bodies could be disposed. Besides, the heavy traffic on highways also facilitated murders and other crimes. As victims were almost always in a highly decomposed state, recognition and subsequent investigations were hampered, he lamented.
''This is changing as the crime in the district has come down with the rounding off, of three groups of gangsters in the past three months,'' Patil added.
