Bayern Munich upset 1-0 by last-place Wolfsburg

BERLIN, Sep 30 (Reuters)Bayern Munich were knocked off the top of the Bundesliga table today with a shock 1-0 defeat at last-place VfL Wolfsburg.

Germany striker Mike Hanke broke free on the left and tapped in a short pass from Cedrick Makiadi in the 36th minute to give Wolfsburg their first victory of the season and lift them to 14th place.

Bayern, who won 2-0 at Inter Milan to take control of Group B in the Champions League on Wednesday, struggled most of the match at Wolfsburg, who had not won in their previous eight games going back to last season.

The champions slipped to fourth with three wins and a draw from six games while Werder Bremen, who crushed Borussia Moenchengladbach 3-0 after their 1-1 draw against Barcelona on Wednesday, moved up to second, also on 10 points.

Nuremberg moved back into first place, ahead of Bremen, Schalke and Bayern on goal difference, after drawing 1-1 at home against Mainz.
