ASI shot dead near Bhuj
Bhuj, Sep 30 (UNI) An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police was shot dead at point-blank range by a four-member gang here early this morning.
Police have identified the deceased as Ranjitsinh Chavda.
Police said Chavda, along with another man, was checking the passing vehicles at a check-post erected about seven km from here.
He stopped a car for routine inspection and bent over to examine the persons travelling in the car. At that time, he noticed a bullet lying on the floor of the car. Becoming suspicious, he contacted his senior on a mobile phone.
While he was on the phone, one of the gang members stepped out of the car and allegedly fired a round from his pistol at point-blank range, killing Chavda on the spot.
The gang members then beat severely the other person, who lost his consciousness. Once he regained the consciousness, he filed a complaint with them and even identified the accused - Jayantilal Premji Chhabaria, Kuldipsinh Jadeja, Jitendra Heerji Kutia and Mansukh Kurji Vasana, all from Ramparvekra village of Mandvi taluka, who he claimed were familiar to him, police said and added no arrest has yet been made in this connection.
