VHP ready for conditional withdrawl of agitation against Haj House

Jaipur, Sep 29 (UNI) In a major climbdown, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today expressed its readiness for a conditional withdrawl of the agitation against the construction of the Haj House at Sanganeer.

Addressing a press conference here, VHP national secretary Dharmanarayan Sharma said the VHP would review its opposition to the construction of the Haj House at Sanganeer on three conditions.

''First, the Haj Committee has to give an assurance that no mosque would be constructed along with the Haj House. Secondly, the Haj Committee has to give an undertaking that the facilities at the Haj House could be open to all communitees during non-Haj season, and thirdly, two Hindu members should be nominated to the construction committee of the Haj House,'' he said.

He said this was the unanimous decision of the VHP leadership as there were conflicting statments were emanating from different functionaries including VHP general secretary Praveen Togadia, president Ashok Singhal and Acharya Giriraj Kishore.

When asked if the local people and leaders like Education Minister Ganshyam Tiwari were taken into confidence before arriving at such a compromise formula, he said this was VHP's stand and hoped it would be acceptable to the local people.

There is nothing new in the conditions except the first one as the Haj committee has already assured the people that the Haj House would be open to all communitees during the off season.
