Spirit over Rs 15 lakh seized

Ara, Sep 29 (UNI) In a major breakthrough, the sleuths of the excise department seized a tanker transporting 16,000 litres of spirit, worth over Rs 15 lakh, and arrested one person near Eastern Railway halt in Bhojpur district today.

Assistant Excise Commissioner Udai Prasad Singh said as per the permit the tanker was supposed to transport formaldehyde from Muzaffarnagar of Uttar Pradesh to Siliguri.

But, the tanker was laden with spirit instead of formaldehyde which can be used to manufacture 40,000 litres of country made liquor, he said.

The arrested driver of the tanker said the consigment was being taken to Purnea instead of Siliguri.
