Sourav needs to perform to be back: Vengsarkar

Kolkata, Sep 29 (UNI) Newly appointed Chairman of national selectors Dilip Vegsarkar today said Sourav Ganguly could surely make a comeback on the basis of his performnace.

Talking to the newsmen during a sojourn to the city, Mr Vengsarkar said, '' Sourav Gangulay is a great cricketor but needs to perform well to get back into the side, performance is the sole criterion. '' The colonel said, '' Being the chairman I have to select players with a broad and open mind and I am open to anyone being in the Indian team who has talent. '' Vengsarkar, who was here on a tour of ten puja pandals, said, ''Age is not a criteria as long as one performs.'' He also said neither would he go by names or previous performnces nor by the fact that the player was too young. The players current form would be everything.

Vengsarkar had recently taken over from Kiran More at the last BCCI AGM, that concluded couple of days back.

Today he visited quite a few clubs where he faced the repetitive requests to include Sourav back into the team to which he assured that he would definitely be back on basis of his performance.

He further said he would visit as many domestic tournament as possible to spot young talent.
