Sonia calls for throwing out UP Govt

New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) The Congress today called for throwing out the Mulayam Singh Govenment in Uttar Pradesh,saying the people of the State are eager for a change.

"The people of the State are fed up with the destructive rule of the Mulayam Singh Government.The massive rally I addressed last month in Kanpur conclusively showed that the people are eager for a change,, "she said in a letter to Congress workers published in the latest issue of the Congress mouthpice Sandesh.

Mrs Gandhi said the State which was once forward looking and had an important place in the economic development was today in a dismal condition. "Crime has become a thriving industry. Communalism and casteism are dictating the state govenment's approach to issues that concern everyone.Funds meant for welfare programmes are diverted or not used," she added.

With employment galloping as more and more industries are closing down,the youth are restive,she said."It is clear that non-Congress Governments can not manage the development of Uttar Prdesh." "Clearly the time has come to throw out the Mulayam Government if Uttar Pradesh has to be saved and if the hopes and aspirations of the people are to be fulfilled," Mrs Gandhi said.

Stating that the States ruled by certain political parties and opportunistic alliances were degenarating into lawlessness and backwardness, Mrs Gandhi said Uttar Pradesh was the typical example of that. The basic problem with non-congress governments was that they were temporary outfits crafted only to enjoy power without any commitment whatsoever to the people.
