Security on alert in Badrinath, Kedarnath temples

Dehradun, Sep 29: The Uttaranchal Police today said it has installed advanced surveillance equipment at Badrinath and Kedarnath Dham in a bid to beef their security arrangements in view of the increase in terrorist attacks at religious places.

''We will also maintain strict vigilance in these temples during the winter season when they are closed for public,'' Deputy Inspector General (Garhwal Region) Ram Singh Meena said.

The DIG said closed-circuit cameras, installed at both places, would be linked directly to Joshimath and Ukhimath, where they would be monitored.

Noting that there was a permanent police security presence at Badrinath Dham through out the year, while not at Kedarnath Dham, Mr Meena said that from now on fulltime security measures would be extended to the latter too.

Even in winter season, when the temples are closed, police patrolling would be intensified in both the places, he added.
