Rijiju urges to expedite road development programme
Itanagar, Sep 29 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh MP Kiren Rijiju has urged the Union Road Transport&Highways minister T R Baalu to expedite early completion of constructions of all proposed national highways in the entire North Eastern region.
In a letter to Mr Baalu today, the MP has appreciated him for initiating Special Accelerated Road Development Pragramme (SARDP) in this region covering 7,616 km of various categories under different central schemes.
Besides, an approved phase-A of 1,310 km with an estimate of Rs 4,618 crore and the phase-B covering 6,306 km of roads need to be expedited since the phase-A covers mostly neighbouring state Asom and to be executed by the Border Road Organisation and Asom Public Works Department, Mr Rijiju said.
Highlighting difficulties due to lack of Air, Inland Water and Railway connectivity in the state, the road network is the only medium of transport, he said.
The proposed four-lane National Highways connecting all the capitals of NE states under NHDP phase III-B also requires necessary push from the concerned ministry, the letter added.
