Random dope tests to be done on players during Champions Trophy

Mumbai, Sep 29 (UNI) There will be random dope testing done on the players during the ICC Champions Trophy to be held at four centres in India from October 7 to November 5, said tournament director Prof Ratnakar Shetty.

Addressing the mediapersons here today, Prof Shetty who is also the administrative head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), said two players from each team would be selected randomly for the test, which will be done during the course of the tournament.

He said the ICC has issued guidelines for players who are on medication for an injury or undergoing rehab, to send the list of medicines to them for clearance. This list would be first send to the medical committee, who would clear the medications and then the list will be forwarded to the ICC for clearance of these medicines by the world body.

Prof Shetty said the samples would be send to the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) in Kuala Lumpur for testing.

The process of collecting and testing of the samples of the players would be undertaken by the WADA, he added.
