People turn blind after cataract operation

Bhubaneswar, Sept 28: Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today ordered an inquiry into the loss of vision of some people after a cataract operation at the Deogarh District Headquarter Hospital.

A press release from the Chief Minister's office tonight said Mr Patnaik has expressed concern over the incident and directed the Director Medical Education and Training (DMET) to depute a medical team to the hospital to probe into the incident.

An expert team from the VSS Medical College and Hospital, Bural would visit the Deogarh Hospital, conduct a probe and submit its report within three days.

The Chief Minister has also ordered that the state government would bear the medical expenses of the all those affected from cataract operation conducted in the Deogarh Hospital.
