Monica Bedi convicted in fake passport case
Hyderabad, Sep 29 (UNI) Monica Bedi, girlfriend of underworld don Abu Salem and three others were convicted in a fake passport case by the Special Court for CBI Cases here today.
Monica Bedi was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000. The others-- Abdus Sattar, a retired sub-inspector of police in Kurnool District, Gokari Saheb, a postman who aided her in getting the fake passport and Younus Khan got three years RI each.
Two others, Noor-Ul-Ahmed and G Srinivas were acquitted.
Senior Public Prosecutor T Venkata Ramanna said the accused were convicted under Sections 120b, 419 and 420 of the Passport Act. They related to cheating, knowingly using forged documents and forgery for the purpose of cheating.
Monica was produced before the court amid tight security this morning. The remand period she had served would be considered as part of the five year imprisonment. She was given permission to appeal to court against the judgement in a month.
