K'taka Legislature adjourned sine die

Belgaum, Sep 29 (UNI) Both the Houses of the Karnataka Legislature were today adjourned sine die, after transacting business for five days from September 25 at a special session convened here, for the first time outside Bangalore.

The session decided to make Belgaum the second capital of the State and hold a 15-day session in the border district every year.

An unanimous decision, urging the Centre to implement the Mahajan Commission report in toto to settle the boundary dispute between Karnataka and Maharashtra, and supplementary estimates for 2006-07 aggregating Rs 1408.89 crore were adopted by the Houses during the special session.

The Karnataka Appropriation Bill 2006, Karnataka Town and Country Planning scheme Amendment 2005, office-of-profit Bill returned by the Governor for reconsideration and Karnataka Land Revenue Amendment Bill were also passed by the Houses.

The proceedings of the Houses were marred by dharnas and walk outs by the Opposition parties over the forest land scam, exposed by a private TV channel recently. The Turahalli land scam, pertaining to the alleged sale of Rs 800 crore worth forest lands, created a major furure in the Legislature, but Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy maintained that the land belonged to the Government and not the Forest department.
