GoM welcomes SC order giving relief to traders on sealing
New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) Welcoming the Supreme Court decision giving relief to traders from the sealing drive in the capital, the Group of Ministers (GOM) today said the government was not considering issuing an ordinance on the issue.
The GoM, led by Home Minister Shivraj Patil, took stock of the situation arising out of the Supreme Court's judgement today which gave traders relief uptill October 31 from the sealing operation.
Briefing mediapersons after the third meeting of GoM, Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy saud the Apex court has made no comment on the government notification of September 7 neither it has stayed it. The court has given immediate relief to lakhs of traders which is very welcome, he said.
He asserted that the government was not planning to bring any ordinance on the issue of sealing.
About the Master Plan 2021, Mr Reddy said that the government is already working on it and the document is in public domain.
Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit also heaved a sigh of relief on the Supreme Court judgement and said that it would give relief to the people of the capital specially during the ongoing festival season. She, however, said that the government was yet to go through the entire order of the Apex Court.
Ms Dikshit said that the GoM would meet again to discuss the matter.
The GoM was constituted earlier this month to seek a solution to the crisis arising after the Supreme Court striking down provisions of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions).
Its meeting was attended by Mr Patil, Mr Reddy, Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal, Commerce Minister Kamal Nath, Law Minister H R Bhardawaj, Delhi Lt Governor B L Joshi, Ms Dikshit, Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken, Delhi Police Commissioner K K Paul and other senior officials of ministries of home and urban development.
