Geelani remains under house arrest
Srinagar, Sept 29: Chairman of the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani remained under house arrest today official sources said.
Mr Geelani was today scheduled to lead a procession after prayers against the Delhi courts order to hang Afzal Guru.
Official sources said Mr Geelani was put under house arrest as a precautionary measure.
A spokesman of the HC Aiyaz Akbar said Mr Geelani was yesterday scheduled to visit Sopore to meet the family members of Afzal Guru, the prime accused in the December 13, 2001 Parliament attack case.
A Delhi court had passed an order to hang Guru till death in Tihar Jail on October 20.
Mr Akbar told UNI that a large number of police personnel remained deployed outside the Hyderpora residence of Mr Geelani.
He said Mr Geelani was informed that he cannot leave his house till further orders.
Mr Akbar criticised the house arrest of Mr Geelani and said that he is not being allowed to offer prayers in the mosque.
