Ex-Customs official convicted of graft, given 3 years RI

New Delhi, Sept 29 (UNI) A special CBI court in Madurai today sentenced former collector of Customs&Central Excise MC Sharma to three-year rigorous imprisonment for acquiring assets disproportionate to his income.

A fine of Rs five lakh has also been imposed on Sharma.

According to a press note, the Anti-Corruption branch of CBI (Chennai) filed a chargesheet in 1992 and the case was heard by the special judge for CBI cases, Madurai.

Sharma, who was posted at Tiruchirapalli from 1986 to 1989, amassed disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs 61.88 lakh.
